Whether you’re looking for somewhere fun to meet up with friends, a place to make new acquaintances, or opportunities for family-friendly entertainment, we hope to provide you with not an all-inclusive list, but rather a well-rounded and easily-accessible list of things to do and places to visit so you can start making the most out of living in the greater Richmond area.

Having lived in Richmond, Virginia since October 1991 and being a transplant from the Northeast, I've come to really enjoy all that Richmond has to offer. Especially if you love being outdoors and meeting new people, I don't know that there is a better small city in the country with so many great events and festivals all within a short drive no matter where you live around town.
I used to rely on everyone else to let me know what was going on and never knew where to turn for a simple line up of what was happening in town the coming weeks. Then I ended up meeting some great friends in different groups and somehow started a little event email in 2005 to let one group know what the other group was up to that week. Soon, I decided to get a little more creative and organized, so I put together a calendar on a simple spreadsheet where people could look at the calendar, click on an event, and the link would take them directly to the event’s website with all the information needed.
Gradually, friends started asking me to include other friends of theirs on my email “list” and it just kept growing until I had over 350 people on my event list. I’ve been told the emails were often forwarded to a couple hundred more people, and others would print and post the calendar on the office wall so everyone would know the upcoming Richmond events.
In March 2009, I finally decided go hi-tech and put the calendar online, and soon realized that I could take the simplicity of the original calendar and make it into a full blown website with easy-to-access links to local events, activities and dining, as well as a place to search for fun day trips and weekend getaways.
